Bid for Renovation of the City of Newport Beach Lifeguard Headquarters
The City of Newport Beach just released a notice of inviting bid for the renovation of the city's lifeguard headquarters. The engineers estimate is $1,060,000.00. The sealed bids will be received until 10:00 A.M. October 30th, 2013 at the office of the City Clerk 100 Civic Center Drive.
San Clemente-based RRM Design Group was responsible for the design aspect of the project. The renovation project includes improvements on the 1st, 2nd and attic spaces of the existing lifeguard headquarters located at the Newport Pier. An addition is proposed on the 2nd floor to expand the dispatch look-out and add an office space. Exterior building improvements will blend the proposed second floor addition into the existing structure. The work includes, but is not limited to: the construction of new mansard and flat roof areas, the installation of new windows, blending of new and existing vinyl siding at the proposed addition, erection of two new columns with boxed enclosures to match the existing architecture and painting.
The renovation work could allow the Junior Guards to move from their classrooms on the Balboa Pier to the upgraded facility. The upgraded facility will not be the headquarters for the junior guards but could serve to aid that program in some capacity.
The headquarters at 70 Newport Pier was built 50 years ago and underwent a remodel in the late 1980s. It's a needed investment that is a long time coming," said Newport Beach Lifeguard Battalion Chief Rob Williams.
