Lido House Hotel-R.D.Olson -Newport Development-Part 2
This is part two of our updates on how the City of Newport is following an approach to plan the future and create new horizon with new developments:
Proposed Lido Village Hotel to Replace the Former City Hall
With the relocation of City Hall to the new Civic Center in Newport Center, the City has been planning for the re-use of the former City Hall Complex located in Lido Village at the corner of Newport Boulevard and 32nd Street. The 4.25 acre site provides an excellent opportunity to achieve the goals of the City to revitalize Lido Village for the benefit of the entire community. The City has undergone an extensive planning effort and the proposed Lido House Hotel is a significant step toward an updated and exciting future for Lido Village and the entire City.
In a packed session in the new City Council Chambers, R.D. Olson Development was awarded the project with stand up applause from attendees. R.D. Olson has brought together an exceptionally qualified team to fulfill the Lido Village vision by providing a unique destination Life Style Hotel experience. The Newport Nautical, Cape Cod design is a stunning example of timeless architectural style, with a 55 ft tall circular viewing area reminiscent of the Balboa Pavillion. The proposed Boutique Hotel will have 130 luxury rooms and 5 two story "Balboa Suites" featuring 2 bedrooms, a small efficient kitchen, a living area, and a rooftop deck with a fireplace. The hotel, designed to be set back from Newport Boulevard, provides a .7 acre public park, with andirondike chairs, Wi Fi, and tables and chairs shaded by the existing large ficus trees. Hotel guests and the public alike will be able to relax in the park and enjoy coffee and freshly baked goods from the hotel's coffee shop and bakery located adjacent to the park. There will also be a rooftop deck and lounge offering bay and ocean views, a restaurant featuring fresh California healthy cuisine, a luxury Spa, 4,000 sq. ft. of meeting rooms and valet parking.
The owner of R.D. Olson, Bob Olson is a longtime resident of Newport Beach and his vision and personal commitment to the Newport Beach Community has been the driving force for this beach casual, sophisticatedly designed Luxury Boutique Hotel.
R.D. Olson and the City have prepared an Environmental Impact Report for the proposed project including the necessary General Plan, Coastal Land Use Plan, and Zoning Code amendments. It is anticipated that public hearings on the project will occur in the spring or early summer of 2014. Once the final project is approved by the City, the project will go to the California Coastal Commission for consideration, which could take between 12 - 18 months. This will surely be a wonderful addition to the Balboa Penninsula!
